It is with great pleasure I write this in support of Lisa Meehan at Door to Door Teacher. What can’t we say about Lisa? We are blessed to have found her!
Our kiddo began Algebra I in the fall of 2021. There were a lot of struggles- tests retaken three and four times ate up not only the class time to be able to learn the new concepts, but also after school and advisory time were spent on the relearning and retaking. At the end of the semester, even after all of these retakes and extra time spent with the teacher, he essentially failed (69% but the school pushed him thru with a C-) first semester Algebra I.
Right away she was able to come in and work with our kiddo not only the first semester of unlearned concepts, but the current work, so he could stay current! She was able to make him feel comfortable and stay positive, engage him in the concepts, and provide additional lessons outside of the tutoring time. And even better than going into the final with a solid B, is the fact that he felt great about taking the final. He felt great about math after going so long without. That in and of itself earned an A+ in my mind.
We are so grateful to have met Lisa, and have already voiced our wish for her to continue tutoring our kiddo next school year. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
What do I recommend about Door to Door Teacher….. EVERYTHING!!! I am a mom of 5 kiddos ages 6 to 14. In March of 2020(I am sure we all remember what was going on) my husband and I were faced with one of the hardest challenges. Our kids were being set home with some materials and schools were closing until further notice! I remember thinking I can do this, I can teach my children… then reality happened! I had no idea what I was doing! I didn’t know how to structure 5 kids, 5 different ages in 5 different grades! I was stressed and a mess! Then I received a phone call from a dear friend! Yes, Mrs. Lisa is a dear friend of mine, one I would have coffee with and enjoy our time together, but never was teaching a common interest! I explained to her all my concerns and that I really didn’t think I was made to teach! She asked “May I come over and help?” My response…. “Please, when can you come?” That is when our adventure began! Mrs. Lisa wrote out a schedule to accommodate all 5 kids, helped me with a graphic organizer, helped set up online learning on their chrome-books, showed me the best ways to help my children learn and navigate the things that were slowing our process! Mrs. Lisa spent endless hours the next couple of months coming to our home and tutoring my oldest with math(may I add Common Core was not common in my public school days)and listening to my younger ones read! Never did I think I would be homeschooling 5 kiddos with no experience in teaching and given a day to prepare! We made it through June with Mrs. Lisa’s help, guidance and most importantly presence!! I could not have done this without her! During those few months not only did I realize the potential in each one of my children, I also learned how much more I could provide for them and how much time in a classroom(of 18+ children)is not spent on quality learning. Once again we made it through June and when August came around for the 2020-2021 school year there was very little guidance as to what school was going to look like and there was talk about part day, 3 hour schedules and mask to be warn. The stress was to much for our kids and to much for me! We decided to homeschool all 5 for the upcoming school year only with the support of Mrs. Lisa! We made it through last year and this year we let the kids decide to either return to public school or be homeschooled… 4 of the 5 are currently homeschooled and our oldest is attending public high school! I can tell you my passion is not to teach, it takes a special heart to do that, but as parents we do what is best for our children and this has been our adventure! I would 100% recommend Door to Door Teacher! Mrs. Lisa is amazing and has the heart that makes her a teacher!
