11/15/21 I attended a live, in person music concert. The school was creative and the concert was held in a parking garage. The sounds & the joy reverberated to my core. At some points I was moved to tears allowing the sound waves to crash over me in person. I’ve been with my husband, a musician, since 1989. Our first date was to a jazz concert. Since then much time has been dedicated to enjoying music & concerts together. I would go to football games or basketball games to watch the band for a special trombone player. I love music, I love musicians, and I know there is much time spent leading up to the concert.
Learning any new skill takes determination. In some ways we have special gifts which allow us to pick up some skills easier than another; but in the end we must be determined to learn. Stick with it, be disciplined & practice the mundane over & over again to improve.
11/8/21 Just a teacher; I’ve been told not to say it that simply. It downgrades the work in some way. However, I really want to be the person behind greatness. The one who pushes the student in front of myself & points out–Look! Look at what you CAN do! Look at how awesome this person is. From my time in resource room reading and math at the secondary level to teaching little ones how to read or 5th graders the joy of long division (yes you can too find joy there!) I love every minute of it. I love when kids make me laugh & there is a comradery that can’t be explained to people outside of our little network inside the classroom.
Like the age old question does a tree make a sound when it falls in the forest with no one around to hear it…am I really a teacher without a classroom or students yet? I await patiently to be just a teacher. A teacher who gets to go door to door or welcome people to my door or through the screen. Listening, finding the best way to support, teach, expand understanding no matter the content. I have a grand vision. Now the patience to wait for it…that seems to be the hard part today.

Completely learning as I go & a bit goofy… embracing the process!
11/5/21 This is a different/new concept I know. I want to help families as they make difficult educational decisions. You as the parent have the most to gain in helping to educate your child well. That may mean homeschool, a pod of families/friends/neighbors getting together to collaborate, public or private school. Whatever you decide–you’ve got this & I can help! My husband & I are both teachers & yet there were several times in our kiddos schooling we felt alone & not sure who to ask for help or if what was happening is reasonable. I want to be your person through this journey!
My kids have all taken piano lessons. I’m thinking of structuring my business as you would for private art, music or sports lessons.
To begin the journey, we sit down together & talk about the direction you want to go & how I can help you & your child. Then each week I come in & support in a variety of ways: do you need to know some great teaching methods that may help you, do you need help with how to set up your day or organize materials, and of course I’d work with your kiddo to support through the learning. Think a tutor only much more comprehensive. I’ve worked with students ranging in age from 6 to 18 & feel strongly that each make strong progress.
